Finally caved and bought a thermal camera for $200 after a customer swore by it
I thought it was just a gimmick for fancy inspectors, but I found a fridge leak in 5 minutes that would've taken me all afternoon with soap bubbles. Has anyone else had one of these things pay for itself fast?

Different strokes I guess, but @fiona_reed my old eyes still do fine without it.

That's the thing with these tools, they seem like overkill until you actually need them. A buddy of mine used his to find a hot breaker in his panel that was barely warm to the touch but was actually failing inside. Caught it before it turned into a real fire hazard. Another time he tracked down a draft around a window that the weatherstripping was supposed to seal but had a tiny gap you could never see with your eyes. So yeah, $200 sounds like a lot upfront, but when it saves you from ripping out drywall or replacing a whole appliance, that's money well spent in my book.
