Dryer vent vs. lint trap, which one actually caused that fire call
Last Tuesday I got a call about a dryer fire smell in a condo in Arlington, and the owner had been cleaning the lint trap every load. The real issue was a 12 foot sagging vent pipe packed with 3 years of buildup, but they swore the trap was the only thing that mattered. Anyone else find customers will fight you on vent maintenance until they see the sheer amount of fluff you pull out?

Three years of buildup in a 12 foot sagging pipe is wild, that thing was basically a stuffed animal at that point. Lint trap gets all the glory because it's right there staring at you every load, but the vent is out of sight and out of mind until it tries to kill you. I've pulled out fluff the size of a small dog from vents where the owner swore up and down they cleaned everything. It's like people think the lint just vanishes after the trap, like the pipe is some magic tube that eats it. They don't believe you until you drop that wad of fuzz on their kitchen floor and watch their face change.
