Basic spring change saved a dishwasher from the scrap heap. Why do we always suggest full replacements?

Because where would we put all the perfectly good stuff we threw out... the landfills are getting lonely. Guess some people just really love shopping for new appliances.

Seriously? I see it the other way. That looks like a ton of stuff getting a second life instead of being crushed. Those places are like giant thrift stores now, it's kind of awesome. People fix things up or use them for parts, so it's not all waste. Feels better than everything just being brand new all the time.
