Why does nobody talk about bokashi bins for apartment composting?

I was at a tiny community workshop in Portland last month and this lady showed me her bokashi setup. She said it takes about 2 weeks to ferment scraps in a sealed bucket with no smell. I tried it in my 500 square foot studio and it actually works. Has anyone else tried bokashi over traditional worm bins?

Did my buddy's bokashi bin explode in his closet or was it just bad luck?

Bokashi bins don't just explode for no reason lol. Your buddy either had way too much liquid buildup or sealed it too tight without burping it. Those things make gas, and if there's no room to escape, it's gonna pop like a shaken soda. Probably not a design flaw, just a rookie mistake with airflow. Tell him to drain the spigot more often and crack the lid once a week.
