Tried bokashi bins after 8 months of worm composting
My worm bin was doing fine with fruit scraps but kept getting too wet and smelly in my studio apartment. Switched to a bokashi system for about $40 and the pre-compost is way easier to manage. Has anyone else had one method just click better for their space?

My buddy Jake had a bokashi in his tiny apartment for about 6 months and he said the smell was fine as long as he emptied the spigot every 3 days. He forgot once during a long weekend trip and came back to this sour pickle smell that hung around for days. He had to dump the liquid and rinse the whole bucket with vinegar water to get it gone. But normally he said it just smells like fermented grains or pickled veggies, nothing that would make your studio unbearable. He also kept a little baking soda near the bucket and that helped with any stray odors. Honestly I think the wet worm bin smell is way worse than anything bokashi puts off.

Oh man, the wet and smelly thing is exactly why I switched too. My worms were basically drowning in their own juice no matter how much bedding I added. For me the bokashi bucket just made sense because it's sealed and I can toss almost everything in there without worrying about fruit flies or moisture. But I'm curious - did you have any trouble with the bokashi smell during fermentation? I hear some people say it gets really strong if you don't drain the liquid often enough. How is yours holding up in a studio?
