That $60 countertop composter was a total scam for me

I bought one of those electric countertop composters back in March, the kind that claims to turn scraps into compost in a few hours. Cost me about $60 on sale, but I should've read the fine print better. After two months of using it, all I got was dried out, warm garbage that still smelled like rotten food. It never actually broke down the scraps into anything usable, just dehydrated them. I ended up having to dump the whole thing into my regular trash because it attracted fruit flies. Now I'm back to just freezing my scraps and taking them to the community drop-off once a week. Has anyone else had luck with those electric machines or am I missing something?

@stella_foster My pal tried one and said the fruit flies threw a house party in it.

Wait, you're telling me that thing just dried out your scraps and didn't actually compost them? I thought those machines were supposed to be like magic little boxes that break everything down. My neighbor has one and she swears by it, but now I'm wondering if she's just trying to make herself feel better about wasting sixty bucks. The fruit fly part really got me, that's my worst nightmare in the kitchen. I'll stick with my backyard pile where at least the worms do all the work for free.
