Stumbled on a worm farm at a friend's highrise in Chicago

I was visiting my buddy Jake at his 30th floor condo last weekend and he had this tiny worm bin in his laundry closet. It barely smelled at all and he said he's been feeding it for 6 months with zero issues. Anyone else tried setting up a worm bin in a small space like a closet or under a sink?

My sister has one in her tiny New York studio under the kitchen sink. She says it completely changed how she thinks about food waste because now she sees every single apple core and coffee ground as FEED for her little wigglers instead of just garbage to throw out. I notice that a lot of people in apartments these days are looking for these small, closed-loop systems. My cousin does bokashi composting in a 5-gallon bucket on her balcony in Seattle. It seems like there is a whole movement of people trying to shrink their waste footprint without having a backyard or a lot of space.

I read somewhere that indoor worm bins are basically odorless when you get the balance right. Too much food or not enough bedding is usually what causes the smell. Your friend probably has a good ratio of shredded newspaper to scraps going. People do it in apartments all the time from what I have heard. Might be worth trying under my sink if it really barely smells at all.
