Pro tip: I started freezing my veggie scraps in a gallon bag until it's full before adding them to my worm bin.
This stopped the fruit flies and smell in my 700 sq ft studio because the frozen scraps break down way slower when I finally add them, giving the worms time to catch up.

That's a SOLID pro tip. Freezing the scraps first is a total game changer for small spaces. It stops the fruit fly eggs from hatching, which is the real secret. I do the same thing but I also chop everything up a bit before freezing. Makes it even easier for the worms to get started when you finally add it.

I mean, is the fruit fly war really that big of a deal? I just toss my scraps straight in the bin and maybe get a few flies. It's not like they're taking over the kitchen. All that extra chopping and freezing feels like a lot of work for a problem that's pretty small.
