People say bokashi bins don't work long term, but mine has been going strong for 8 months now
I started a bokashi bin last January in my studio apartment near downtown Austin. Everyone on here told me it would get too smelly or attract bugs after a few months. Well, I'm on month 8 and I've emptied the bucket 4 times into a soil factory with no issues at all. The key for me was keeping the layers thin and draining the liquid every 3 days without fail. Has anyone else had good luck with bokashi past the 6 month mark?

You mentioned keeping the layers thin and draining every 3 days, and that was huge for me too. I started my bin about 10 months ago here in Houston, and I think the trick is really staying on top of the liquid drainage. I also started sprinkling a little extra bran on top whenever I add a new layer, and that keeps any smell from building up between empties.

Extra bran on top of each new layer" - that's genius, I've just been winging it and hoping my apartment doesn't smell like a compost crime scene lmao.
