My neighbor gave me a jar of her "secret compost starter" and it was just dirt with a dead spider in it
She knocked on my door last Tuesday all serious like she was handing over a family heirloom, and I spent 20 minutes pretending to be amazed before I realized she was dead serious about the spider being the magic ingredient lol. Has anyone else gotten some absolutely wild advice from a well-meaning neighbor about this stuff?

Honestly I'm not convinced any of this stuff really matters that much. My plants do fine with just water and some basic fertilizer from the store.

My neighbor gave me a bucket of "aged manure tea" once and insisted I brew it like actual tea before using it on my plants. I sat there stirring this slop with a spoon for ten minutes before I realized she was totally serious about the whole brewing thing. Still have no idea if she was right or just messing with me.
