My friend in Denver swore by adding shredded cardboard to my worm bin, and after 3 weeks of ignoring him, my compost finally stopped smelling like a swamp.
He told me, 'just rip up an old Amazon box and mix it in,' and now I'm wondering what other simple tips I've been missing out on for apartment composting.

Yeah cardboard is a game changer for balancing moisture. A handful of crushed eggshells once a week works wonders too, it keeps the bin from getting too acidic. Honestly most apartment compost fails just need more browns like that.

Three whole weeks of swamp smell before trying the cardboard trick? I would have given up and thrown the whole bin off the balcony after day three. Your friend is a saint for putting up with that. Eggshells are smart too, I always just assumed my bin was supposed to smell like a science experiment gone wrong.
