Learned the hard way: don't buy a cheap countertop composter
I spent $80 on a generic electric composter from Amazon 3 months ago thinking it would be a game-changer. After 2 weeks the motor started making a weird grinding noise, then it just quit on me. The seller ghosted my messages so no luck with a return. Now I'm back to using a simple 5-gallon bucket with bokashi bran, which cost me $20 total and actually works better. Anyone else get burned by one of those overpriced machines?

That $80 machine was probably just a cheap rebranded model from some factory in China. The motor in those things is usually the weak link, they just aren't built to run day after day. I had a similar experience with a fancier one my neighbor gave me after it died on her. The bucket and bokashi method is honestly more reliable, you don't have to worry about a motor burning out. Plus you can actually bury that fermented waste right in the garden bed, which is way better than the dried crumbly stuff those machines make. You might even try a worm bin down the line if you want something a little more active, that's been my most low-maintenance setup by far.

Never fails, seems like every time someone tries to take a shortcut on a decent appliance, the motor gives out right after the warranty expires. Reminds me of how people buy cheap power tools and end up spending more replacing them over time.
