Just realized my balcony compost bin is basically a pet now

I used to just toss scraps into a big plastic tub and ignore it for weeks, which led to fruit flies and a bad smell. After reading a post here last month, I started mixing in shredded paper and checking the moisture every other day. Now I actually look forward to seeing how the pile changes, and it never smells. Anyone else find themselves weirdly attached to their compost setup?

Totally get that. My worm bin is the same way. I catch myself checking on them like they're my weird little roommates. The whole moisture balance thing is a game changer, stops the smell dead.
