Just realized everyone in my building is messing up their brown to green ratio

I saw three bins in the trash room yesterday that were just sloppy wet food scraps, which is why they stink and attract bugs. Has anyone else found a good local source for cheap shredded paper or cardboard in a city like Seattle?

Check with local coffee shops, they often have tons of spent coffee grounds they need to get rid of. Great brown material that helps with the smell too.

That bit about coffee grounds helping with the smell... I've had the total opposite experience, @bethh20. When I tried it, my compost pile just got this weird, sour kind of odor. It might work for some setups, but it really threw mine off balance. I find sticking with dry leaves and shredded paper as my browns works way better for keeping things neutral.
