I picked bokashi over a worm bin for my tiny kitchen and here's what happened

My apartment is 500 square feet and I had to choose between a bokashi bucket and a worm bin. I went with bokashi because I read it doesn't smell as much and you can put cooked food in it. After 3 weeks of feeding it scraps like eggshells and leftover rice, I buried the fermented waste in a planter on my balcony. It broke down fast and didn't attract gnats like I worried about. Has anyone else tried bokashi in a small space and found a trick to speed up the breakdown?

Burying it in a planter cuts down the smell way faster than letting it sit in the bucket too long, I always do that now. Speeds up breakdown a ton if you mix in some dry leaves or soil with it.

Picked up a bokashi bucket myself last year for the same reason. The "no gnats" claim is wild to me because I still got a few little flies somehow, maybe from the scraps I tossed in. But burying the fermented stuff in a planter is smart, I just let mine sit in the bucket too long and got a bit of a sour smell. Didn't think about doing it on a balcony though, that's actually a solid move for small spaces.
