I gave up on worm bins after my third escape attempt in a Chicago winter

I used to keep a worm bin under my kitchen sink, but every time the heat kicked on, they'd try to crawl out. After the third messy cleanup last January, I switched to a sealed bokashi bucket. It's been 6 months and I haven't smelled a thing or had any guests. The pre-compost I get is way easier to deal with. Has anyone else ditched worms for something simpler in a small space?

My old worm bin had the same winter escape problem in my apartment. I switched to a simple countertop composter that uses a charcoal filter, and it's been a total game changer for small spaces. No more mess and the whole process is just way less stressful.
