I finally ditched my bokashi bin after 5 weeks and my freezer stopped smelling like a dumpster
Everyone in this sub pushes bokashi, but after 5 weeks in my 400 sq ft studio in Portland the bin leaked juice onto my bookshelf and the smell was worse than the food going in. I switched to a plain 1 gallon freezer bag in the door and just dump it at the farmers market drop-off on Saturdays, and the difference in 3 days was wild, no flies, no liquid, no fuss. Bokashi makes sense if you have a porch or a spot to bury the stuff, but for a tiny apartment with no balcony it was just a wet mess I had to babysit. Has anyone else bailed on bokashi and gone the freezer route, or did I just do it wrong?
