Got my compost idea from a tiny coffee shop in Asheville
I was at this place called Penny Cup last month and saw they kept a small bucket under the counter for coffee grounds and filters. The barista told me they give it to a neighbor for her balcony compost. It hit me that I could use a similar setup. I bought a 2 gallon ceramic crock with a charcoal filter lid for my kitchen. Now I collect my scraps for a week before dropping them at the community garden bin. Does anyone else use a small countertop bucket, and how often do you empty it?

Charcoal filters help but you still need to empty it more than once a week.

That's a solid system. My setup is almost the same, a little metal pail with a filter lid right by the sink. It gets emptied every Sunday when I take the trash out, no matter how full it is. Lets you forget about it during the week. The charcoal filter is key, stops any smells from building up.
