finally caved on a $30 compost pail with a filter and holy moly it works

For like 2 years I just used a random tupperware container for my kitchen scraps and it got so nasty I'd dread opening the fridge. The fruit flies were insane too. My neighbor in 3B told me she got one of those stainless steel pails with a charcoal filter for $30 on Amazon and I rolled my eyes hard. But after my third fruit fly invasion last month I finally ordered one. Honestly the smell difference is huge. I can keep scraps in there for 3 or 4 days before dumping in my worm bin and it barely smells. The filter actually works. Now I'm mad I wasted money on all those tupperware lids that warped. Anyone else have a specific bin that finally clicked for them?

@mason.mary same here, my ceramic crock with the seal was the game changer after fighting those fruit flies for months.

Fruit flies are the absolute worst. I did the tupperware struggle too and finally got a ceramic crock with a lid that seals tight. Night and day difference, I actually don’t mind keeping scraps on the counter now.
