Dropped $34 on a countertop "compost machine" that just baked my banana peels into a brick
Saw one of those little electric kitchen composters at Bed Bath and Beyond in Columbus last spring and figured $34 was worth it since I live in a 400 sq ft studio with no balcony. Ran it for 3 weeks and all it did was dry my scraps into a hard lump that smelled like burnt coffee and took 6 hours to grind down. Turns out it does not actually make compost, it just makes dehydrated trash you still have to deal with. Went back to my $6 worm bin from the hardware store and it made actual castings in a month. Has anyone found a countertop setup under $50 that truly finishes the job, or is that just not a real thing?
Spent 34 bucks and got a brick of banana jerky, doesn't sound like the end of the world to me. Countertop machines are basically dehydrators with fancy names, so yeah, they dry stuff out and call it a day. Just use the worm bin since it already works and skip chasing gadgets that promise more than they do.
