The $3 brass lamp that beat my $120 modern one, no contest

Picked up this little brass desk lamp at a flea market outside Dayton last month. It was grimy, cord was shot, shade dented. Took a Saturday to clean it, rewired it, and popped a new socket in. Total cost was about $9 with parts. Now it sits on my workbench and the light quality is just better than that expensive LED thing I bought at the hardware store. Warmer, softer, and it actually focuses where I need it. The metal feels solid too, not like the plastic junk that wobbles. Anyone else find that old lamps just have better lenses or reflectors?

Your old lamp bit sounds EXACTLY like my garage find, same deal with the reflector, way better spread than anything new.
