Pros and cons of asking dealers to hold items, my weekend flip
I put a $45 Art Deco lamp on hold at a booth in Portland for 2 days, paid for it without haggling, then saw the identical lamp at another stall for $28 on the same trip. Asking to hold feels polite and locks the item, but you lose the leverage to negotiate since they know you're committed. I've also had dealers forget my hold and sell it anyway, which turned me off the whole practice. Do you ask for holds or just grab and negotiate on the spot, and has anyone gotten a better price after a hold?

That $17 difference stings, but honestly I'm more curious about the dealer who sold your held item. Did you ever go back to that booth and call them out on it, or did you just write them off for good?
