Hand carved duck vs. factory decoy, I spent $85 and learned my lesson

At a flea market in Harrisburg I had to pick between a beat-up hand carved mallard for $85 and a clean factory one for $40. I took the carved one even though it had a cracked head, and now I can't stop staring at the tool marks. Has anyone else paid more for character over condition?

Is it really that deep though? You paid $45 extra for tool marks that probably nobody else would even notice unless they were inspecting it up close.
