Rant: I spent years thinking 'fictitious' meant a map was fake, not that it had made-up places for copyright traps

Last month I was showing off my 1850s map of California with a weird town called 'Aguaje' near San Diego, and a guy at the meetup gently pointed out it was a fictitious entry (you know, a copyright trap), and I felt like an absolute fool for all the times I'd bragged about 'fake maps' before.

Wouldn't knowing about those traps just ruin the fun of old maps though?

ruin the fun" - nah not at all. @bell.emma i actually had the opposite experience. stumbling into that pit trap in the old forest dungeon was funny the first time, but after i lost a full set of gear to it, i was just annoyed. knowing where it is now makes me feel smart walking around it. plus i still get wrecked by other stuff i forgot about.
