Just figured out why my 1890s Germany map never lined up with modern borders
I spent about 3 months trying to match a faded 1897 Stieler atlas plate to modern Germany, and nothing ever fit right. Then last Tuesday I noticed the map was actually showing the German Empire, which had way different lines than what I kept overlaying. I felt pretty dumb for not catching that sooner, but also kind of proud I stuck with it long enough to see it. Has anyone else mixed up an empire with a modern country on an old plate like that?
