Hot take: the 1747 map of my hometown shows a street that doesn't exist anymore
I was at the library in New Bedford going through their old map drawer and pulled out a 1747 survey of the waterfront. Right where my grandma's old apartment building sits, there's a lane called Cartwright's Alley that just vanishes off later maps. I asked the archivist and she said it got wiped out when they filled in the cove around 1810. Now I can't stop thinking about how much of the town is built on top of stuff nobody remembers. Anyone else ever track down a road or building that got erased like that?
