Had to pick between two old maps of my hometown at a flea market last Saturday

I found a 1910 Sanborn fire insurance map and a 1932 road map of Greenville for the same price, 15 bucks each. I went with the Sanborn because it had every single building labeled including the old cotton mill that burned down in 1918. When I got home and matched it up with Google Maps, I could see my own street wasn't even there yet, just a cow pasture. Has anyone else had luck finding their house on a map that predates it?

Took that Sanborn map and did the same thing with my folks' old house. Found out their property was a blacksmith shop in 1890, which explains all the rusty horseshoes we'd dig up in the backyard. Never would've guessed that without those old fire maps.

@aaronrobinson that's awesome, we found out our place used to be a general store and the basement has old bottle dumps everywhere.
