A gas station attendant in Tucumcari handed me a 1962 road map and now I can't look at digital maps the same way
I was stuck waiting on a tow outside Tucumcari last month and the guy behind the counter pulled a folded up Route 66 map from under the register just to show me where the old alignment ran. Now I keep wondering how many ghost towns and dead roads are hiding under the smooth lines of my phone screen, has anyone else gone down this rabbit hole with old highway maps?

Wait, he just had a 1962 map sitting under the register? Like it was no big deal? That part is blowing my mind. I would have offered him cash on the spot for that thing. You hear about stuff like that getting thrown out or sold to collectors, not handed over so some guy waiting on a tow can see where the old road ran. Now I want to know if the diner down the street has one too, or if this was just a one in a million thing.
