Tried watching 00s era dub instead of sub and it completely changed how I saw that Gundam series

I was rewatching Gundam Wing last month after like 15 years and decided to put on the English dub for nostalgia. Man the cheesy voice acting actually made the political drama way more entertaining and I noticed details I missed the first time around when I was obsessed with subs. Now I'm wondering if other older mecha shows like Escaflowne hold up better in their dubs too. Anyone else go back to an old dub and get a totally different experience?

Always thought dub fans were just nostalgic for bad acting but seeing posts like this actually made me reconsider. Tried rewatching Gundam Wing with the dub like you said and the over the top delivery really does add a layer of fun the sub doesnt have. Now I'm thinking about giving Escaflowne another shot myself.

Totally feel you on that, sometimes the old dubs have this unintentional charm that makes the whole thing feel fresh again. I did the same with Escaflowne last year and honestly had a blast with the cheesy lines.
