TIL the 'skip the filler arcs' advice works until it doesn't

A guy on a Discord server told me to skip episodes 48 through 52 of that long-running shonen because 'nothing happens.' I did, and then the reveal in episode 54 made zero sense because the whole setup was in that skipped stretch. Has anyone else been burned by trusting the crowd's pacing shortcuts, or was I just unlucky that time?

Wait, did that Discord guy actually watch those episodes himself, or was he just repeating what someone else said about them? Because there's a big difference between "nothing happens" and "nothing happens that I care about," and it sounds like you found out the hard way. Like, did he warn you about the setup at all, or did he just leave you to figure out the mess on your own after the fact?
