Spent 3 weekends trying to figure out why my anime watch order felt wrong and it was one dumb thing
So I finally got my friend into a long running shonen series last month and I told him to just watch it in release order like I did back in high school. He comes back after like 12 episodes and says the pacing feels off and he keeps getting confused about when certain fights happen. I got defensive at first because I swore by release order for years, but then I actually sat down and mapped out the arcs on paper and realized the broadcast order really does jump around the timeline in a way that only makes sense if you already know the story. Took me 3 weekends and a full notebook page to admit he had a point, which is honestly embarrassing for someone who has rewatched this show at least 5 times. Now I'm stuck because part of me still thinks first time viewers should get the messy original order like we did, but the other part thinks that's just nostalgia talking. Do you guys push release order or chronological order on new people, and has anyone actually changed their mind after trying it the other way?
