PSA: Dropped $80 on a 'premium' anime streaming box that bricked in 3 weeks
Ngl I got too excited when I saw this little box claiming to stream every anime site without ads. Bought it off some sketchy vendor at a con in Houston for 80 bucks. Worked great for like 10 days then started freezing on every episode. By week three the thing just won't turn on at all. Tried resetting it and fiddling with the HDMI but nothing. Now it's just a paperweight on my desk. Honestly stick to a cheap Fire Stick or just use your laptop. Has anyone else gotten burned by those con vendor gadgets?

Blame the vendor not the concept. I actually had the opposite experience with one of those boxes from a con in Dallas last year. Paid 60 bucks for one that looked identical to what you described and it's still kicking on my living room TV right now. The key is to immediately swap out the power cable and hdmi cord they give you because those are always the weak links. I also made sure to update the firmware as soon as I got home and that probably helped too. Maybe you just got a dud or didn't set it up right. Not everything from a con booth is automatically garbage.

Did you try plugging it into a different power source? I bought a similar box from a booth at a Texas convention a couple years ago, and it turned out the USB cable they gave me was just super cheap and couldn't handle the power draw. Swapped it with the one from my phone charger and it actually came back to life, though it still died for good about a month later. Those con gadgets are just mass produced junk with cool stickers slapped on them.
