Old timer at the con told me to always watch the first 3 episodes before dropping a show

I ignored him and bailed on Madoka Magica after episode 1 because it looked like a cute magical girl show. Two years later I finally went back and watched the whole thing, and man I felt like an idiot. Anyone else almost miss out on a great series because of a bad first impression?

My friend almost quit Steins;Gate after two episodes because the first one was so confusing... now it's her favorite anime and she won't shut up about it.

Hesitated on Steins;Gate for like three years because the first episode felt so slow and I had no idea what was happening with the bananas and the microwave. Turned out I was just missing the whole "you gotta trust the setup" thing. Actually there's a small thing - the first episode of Steins;Gate isn't really confusing on purpose, it's more that the show expects you to pay close attention to random details that payoff later. It took me realizing that the whole show is basically a puzzle box before I gave it another shot. Now it's easily in my top five.
