My friend told me my anime tier lists were just a popularity contest

I used to rank shows like 'Attack on Titan' and 'Demon Slayer' at the top just because everyone else did. He said I was just listing what was trending and not what I actually connected with, which made me rewatch 'Mushishi' from 2005. Now I judge shows on my own personal vibe, not their hype. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on their anime opinions?

Oh man, that's a real gut check. What was it about rewatching 'Mushishi' that finally made your own taste click for you? Like, did you realize you were actually bored by the big action shows you thought you loved?

It was the third episode, the one with the rainbow in the bamboo forest. I realized I was holding my breath, not from excitement, but from how quiet and sad it was. I had always skipped shows like that for faster plots. But watching it again, I felt more from that silence than from any big fight scene. So my question is, when you watch something slow now, does your brain still itch for something to happen, or are you finally comfortable just letting it be?
