My friend told me my anime reviews were just plot summaries and now I can't unsee it
I got called out for never talking about themes or direction, so I started focusing on one specific shot or soundtrack cue per video, but I'm worried that's too niche now.

Been there, my early reviews were basically just me reading the Wikipedia page out loud. Focusing on one shot or cue is a solid fix, it forces you to dig into the craft. It might feel niche, but that specific detail often opens up a bigger point about the whole show. You're basically building a real review from the ground up, one interesting piece at a time. It's way better than just listing what happened next.
