My buddy Mike made me rethink how I watch dubs vs subs

I was arguing with my friend Mike last week about why dubs are fine for most shows. He said I was missing the point - that the voice direction in the original language is part of the director's vision, not just the acting. It hit different because he showed me a scene from Akira where the subbed version has way more emotional range in the delivery. Now I'm going back and rewatching my favorite series with subs to see what I missed. Has anyone else had a friend change your mind about how you consume anime?

IDK watching a new dub can actually make a bad show way more fun sometimes.
