Hit 100 completed anime and realized I still don't like most 'classics'

I just logged my 100th finished series on MyAnimeList last week. I expected to love the big ones everyone talks about, but after trying stuff like 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and 'Cowboy Bebop', I just felt bored. I forced myself through them because they're supposed to be important, but they didn't connect with me at all. My list is full of newer seasonal shows and weird shorts that I actually enjoyed. Does anyone else find their taste is totally different from the standard 'must watch' list?

Sounds like you're making a hobby feel like homework.

Honestly that's such a good way to put it. Tbh I did that with gardening last year, bought all these fancy tools and made a schedule. Totally killed the fun of it for me. Now I just water things when they look sad and it's way better.
