Vent: Customers keep asking for motion sensors in the kitchen
I did three installs this week where the homeowner insisted on a motion sensor right over the stove. Every time, I explain that heat from cooking will set it off, but they don't listen. One guy in Tampa last month called me three times in a week for false alarms before letting me move it. It's always the same story. Why do people think they know better than the guy who's done this for ten years? Anyone have a good way to explain this without sounding like you're talking down to them?

Tell me about it, my last client fought me on that too!

Oh man, that reminds me of a client who wanted a sensor in the bathroom, right by the shower. Steam set it off every morning like clockwork. It's a similar kind of stubborn logic, @betty20. They finally listened after their morning coffee kept getting interrupted by the alarm.
