The basement sensor placement I got wrong for 12 years
I used to mount all my motion detectors up high near the ceiling, figured that gave the best coverage, until a customer in Akron asked why her cat kept setting off the zone at 3am. Turns out the manual for the panel specifically said to aim them down at a 15 degree angle for pet immunity, and every single install I did before last March had them flat. Has anyone else gone back and adjusted old sensors after reading the fine print that came with the unit?

Twelve years of flat sensors. That's a whole decade of false alarms and pissed off cats I owe apologies to. My own dog probably thinks I'm an idiot for the way I'd cuss at the panel at 2am. Went back and re-angled every single one last weekend. Took two days and a lot of ladder climbing for a guy pushing fifty. Least the cat in Akron finally sleeps now.
