Hit 500 installs this month, still surprised by what fails

Just passed 500 total installs over 8 years in the trade. Most people think the expensive panels or fancy sensors cause problems. Nope. It's the cheap backup batteries that die first, every single time. I've pulled 40 of them out of service calls this year alone. Also those screw terminals on older keypads loosen up after a few hot summers. Had three false alarms last week just from that. Anyone else see more failures in the dumb stuff than the tech?

Ha, I used to swear by those little backup batteries, thought they were the least of my worries. Then I pulled 12 dead ones out of a single condo complex last spring, all under two years old. You're totally right, it's always the boring stuff that bites you. I had a customer call me at 2am once because a keypad terminal was loose, sounded like a haunted house with all the random beeping. Now I check every screw and battery on routine visits, no matter how new the system looks. The fancy tech gets all the hype, but the dumb parts are what pay my bills, honestly.
