Had a job in a 1920s house in Portland yesterday... realized I've been crimping my RJ31X jacks wrong for years.

Honestly, that's probably the best way to learn! Getting it wrong for so long means you've built up a ton of muscle memory doing it your way. Changing it now is just going to slow you down for no real benefit.

Muscle memory is a stubborn thing, right? You've probably wired a thousand jacks with your own special method. At this point, calling it 'wrong' is just a matter of opinion. If the phones still ring, you built a functional system. Maybe the 1920s house was judging your technique.
