A customer told me my alarm panel wires looked like spaghetti and I actually listened
I had this job over in Oakdale last month where I ran all the wires behind this big residential panel. Customer walks in while I'm finishing up and says 'man, that looks like my kid's art project back there.' Felt a little burned at first but I looked at it again and she was right. Now I spend an extra 10 minutes per job using those little wire keepers to bundle things clean. Has anyone else had a customer turn out to be your best quality control?

That kind of feedback stings at first but there's something real about it. I think we all get so focused on the technical stuff that we forget how things look to regular people. It's like when my wife pointed out that I hang my shirts all different directions in the closet and now I can't unsee it. Life is full of these little blind spots where someone outside your head just sees the mess you've been ignoring. Worst part is once they point it out you realize they were right all along and you were just rushing through. Now I catch myself looking at other stuff the same way, like how I stack dishes or park the truck. Funny how a random comment can change how you do things forever.

Just take the L and move on, that's what I do. I've had a buddy call me out for how I load the dishwasher like a crazy person. It stung for a second but then I saw the logic in what he said. Now I actually set the forks and spoons the same way every time. It saves like 10 seconds of hassle later but it's wild how much calmer the kitchen feels.
