Walked through the boneyard at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson and saw a panel held on with safety wire and hope
Took the family to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson about a month ago and spent most of the trip staring at the engine nacelles instead of the planes like a normal person. Found a panel on an old radial engine held on with nothing but safety wire twisted by hand, no screws, and I could see daylight through the gap. Whoever signed that off either ran out of hardware or just did not care, and in this trade that is the kind of shortcut that gets somebody hurt. I get that museum birds do not fly, but the work is still a record of what somebody thought was good enough that day. What is the worst quick fix you have found on a plane that was actually supposed to fly?
