The Tuesday morning I actually enjoyed pulling a PT6 apart

I've been an engine mechanic for 11 years and I always said I hated working on PT6s. Too many little parts and shims. But last Tuesday at the hangar in Bakersfield, I got a PT6A that had a hot section inspection due. It was weird because everything just lined up. The torque wrench didn't slip once and I found all my lockwire sizes on the first grab. Even the compressor turbine blades came off without that stuck-on feeling. My lead John said "you look like you're having fun" and I realized I actually was. I think it was the new snap ring pliers I got from the tool truck last month. Has anyone else had a job change their whole mood about an engine type? I used to groan whenever I saw a PT6 work order come through.

My buddy Dave swears by those Knipex snap ring pliers and I finally get why now, makes a brutal job feel almost sane. I still remember the first time I rebuilt a PT6 and spent an hour hunting for a dropped shim that bounced into oblivion. Glad you found your groove with it, maybe I need to buy my tool guy a coffee and try again.
