Saw a guy safety wire a fuel cap at the Dayton airfield with pliers and my stomach dropped
I was at a small hangar near Dayton airfield killing time while a buddy did a pre-buy on a 172. The owner came over and started safety wiring his fuel cap with a pair of needlenose, no twister, no tension. Wire was going the wrong direction on one side and had a pigtail sticking out about an inch. I said something casual and he shrugged it off, said it's held for 2 annuals. That wire is the only thing keeping that cap from walking off in flight. Has anyone else run into an owner who thinks safety wire is just decoration?
