Noticed a weird thing at the Phoenix airport hangar last month

I was doing a side job at a small hangar near Phoenix Sky Harbor last month, helping a buddy with some interior work on a Cessna 172. While I was there, I saw a mechanic using a modified paint scraper to clean off old sealant around a window. Not a proper gasket scraper or anything, just a beat-up drywall knife he'd ground down himself. He swore by it and said it saved him 20 minutes per window compared to the plastic ones from the tool truck. I've always used the expensive brand-name scrapers on my painting jobs, but his hack actually looked faster and left less gouging. Made me wonder how many good tricks we miss by sticking to what the tool reps push on us. Has anyone else seen or made their own custom tools that work better than the store-bought stuff?

Man that's a smart hack, I really respect when people figure out better ways on their own.

You don't need a fancy tool to do good work, just something that gets the job done.
