My instructor at A&P school in Phoenix swore you could seat a tire bead with a shot of starting fluid, but I tried it on a Cessna 172 last week and nearly jumped out of my skin when the flash was way bigger than expected.

Anyone else have an old-timer pass down a 'trick' that worked a little too well?

Yeah, that trick is no joke. My uncle used to do that on tractor tires, but he always said you gotta use way less than you think. One time he singed his eyebrows off because he got the mix wrong with the air.

My old boss in Tucson showed me that trick on a semi truck tire. It worked, but the BOOM was so loud it set off a car alarm across the lot. @parker_patel84 is right, the mix is everything.
