Had to choose between a loaner tool and my old beat up one on a CRJ last night

My torque wrench died halfway through a brake job on a CRJ-700 at about 10 PM. The night shift lead offered me their Snap-on loaner but I knew it had been dropped twice last month. I grabbed my old Craftsman from the bottom of my box instead. Calibrated it myself on the spot using a borrowed test stand. Finished the job at 11:30 and the brake assy passed leak check fine. The lead gave me crap for not using their tool but I don't trust loaners after seeing one read 50 inch-pounds off. Have any of you guys had a loaner fail on you or am I being too paranoid?

emma_smith that video was wild, I bet that guy wished he had his old beat up tool on hand. Loaners are such a gamble, especially when you don't know how the last guy treated them. It's not being paranoid, it's just knowing that your own gear has a track record you trust, and a torque wrench off by fifty inch-pounds can cost you a lot more than a few extra minutes of work.

Did you see that video where a loaner snapped mid-turn?
