My mom said she'd never use an air fryer, but now she makes her own fries every Friday

She was so set in her ways with her old deep fryer, saying the air fryer was just a fad. Last week I visited her in Portland and she had a whole basket of crispy sweet potato fries ready. She told me she hasn't bought frozen fries in six months because it's so easy to just cut up a potato. Has anyone else had a family member do a total flip like that?

That part about being set in her ways with the old deep fryer sounds just like my dad. He called my air fryer a "glorified toaster oven" for a year. What finally worked was just leaving mine at his house after a visit. I told him he could give it back next time I saw him, but he had to try it once. He made some chicken wings, and now he texts me pictures of his "experiments" with it. Sometimes they just need to use it without feeling like they have to commit to buying one.

The "glorified toaster oven" line is a classic.
