I tried to make crispy tofu and ended up with a smoky kitchen disaster

Last Tuesday I threw some cubed tofu in my air fryer at 400 degrees without patting it dry first. About 8 minutes in, smoke started pouring out and my smoke alarm went off. I pulled it out and half the pieces were stuck to the basket and burnt to a crisp. Has anyone else dealt with the smoke issue with tofu or am I just doing it totally wrong?

That smoke alarm panic is just life saying "you rushed it.

My toaster oven set off the fire alarm three times last Tuesday making mini pizzas. I stood there fanning the smoke detector with a towel while the cheese was still bubbling. It's like the universe knows exactly when you're already running ten minutes behind. Doesn't matter if I planned ahead or had everything ready to go. The smoke always finds a way to let everyone know I'm in a hurry.
1
